La gara monegasca si chiude con un risultato da incorniciare per Enrico Brazzoli e Luca Beltrame, che hanno portato la Peugeot 208 R2 del Team Vieffecorse sul primo gradino del podio della classifica WRC3, terminando la gara in ventesima posizione assoluta e al terzo posto tra le vetture a due ruote motrici.
La cavalcata del pilota di Saluzzo non era iniziata nel migliore dei modi a causa di una scelta di pneumatici non ottimale il in occasione della difficile P.S. “Sisteron” corsa nella serata di giovedì: azzeccare la scelta giusta era praticamente impossibile e il ghiaccio in un breve tratto della Prova ha creato tanti problemi anche alle squadre ufficiali. Non per questo l’equipaggio italiano ha rinunciato a combattere: con una condotta di gara tatticamente perfetta, Brazzoli e Beltrame hanno costantemente fatto segnare tempi di valore assoluto, tallonando i loro giovanissimi rivali Jean-Baptiste Franceschi e Taisko Lario fino a che entrambi non sono usciti di scena nel corso della lunghissima tappa di venerdì per troppa foga.
“Avevo tanta voglia di riscattare il ritiro dello scorso anno ed ho impostato la mia gara sulla regolarità: le condizioni delle strade erano particolarmente difficili e bisognava operare con estrema attenzione la scelta di pneumatici e le regolazioni della vettura. I miei ricognitori ed i ragazzi di Vieffecorse hanno fatto un lavoro fantastico, mettendomi sempre nelle condizioni ottimali per affrontare ogni singola Prova ed è anche grazie al loro lavoro che ho colto questo incredibile risultato” ha dichiarato Enrico Brazzoli al suo arrivo a Monaco “I piazzamenti sul podio al Tour de Corse 2016 e al Wales Rally GB 2017 avevano già premiato il mio impegno nel Campionato del Mondo nelle ultime tre stagioni ma questa vittoria a Montecarlo è davvero un risultato che vale una carriera: rappresenta il giusto riconoscimento per un lavoro di squadra davvero perfetto e per il notevole impegno che tutti ci abbiamo messo. Sono in testa alla classifica del WRC3 e mi darò da fare per mantenere la posizione il più a lungo possibile”.
The 86th Rallye Monte-Carlo ends with a result to be framed by Enrico Brazzoli and Luca Beltrame, who brought the Peugeot 208 R2 of Team Vieffecorse on the first step of the podium of the WRC3 classification, finishing the race in twentieth position overall and in third place among the 2WD cars.
The driver from Saluzzo did not start in the best way due to a wrong choice of tyres on the occasion of the difficult SS "Sisteron" run on Thursday evening: it was practically impossible to make the right choice and the ice in a short section of the Stage created many problems for the Manufacturers’ cars as well. Not for this reason the Italian crew has given up fighting: with a tactically perfect race, Brazzoli and Beltrame have consistently scored valuable times in all Stages, tying their young rivals Jean-Baptiste Franceschi and Taisko Lario until both of them left the scene for an excess of heat during the long stage of Friday.
"For sure I wanted to redeem last year's stop and thus I set my pace on regularity: the road conditions were quite difficult and we had to work very carefully with the choice of tyres and in finding the optimal set-up of the car.
