SALOU (Spagna) – Non c’era Nando Martellini ad inneggiare con il suo triplice “Campioni del Mondo” ma, Enrico Brazzoli e Luca Beltrame, portacolori di Winners Rally Team, campioni del mondo lo sono diventati sicuramente. Una vittoria che corona una stagione fantastica che concretizza il motto (ed anche la filosofia di vita) di Enrico Brazzoli: “Cerca l’assurdo e raggiungerai l’impossibile” “Siamo partiti ad inizio stagione per cercare di ottenere un podio nel Campionato Mondiale WRC3, ma il successo di Montecarlo ci ha spinto a credere in un risultato ancor più prestigioso e gratificante” sottolinea il giorno dopo l’incoronazione Brazzoli, ed i numeri dicono chiaramente che il pilota più meritevole di questo titolo WRC-3 2018 è lui. Nelle cinque gare fin qui disputate gli alfieri di Winners Rally Team hanno ottenuto due vittorie (Montecarlo e Spagna) due secondi posti (Galles e Germania) e solo in Sardegna, una gara difficile e sofferta, non sono saliti sul podio. “Mi fa piacere che abbiamo conquistato questo titolo sul campo, con una gara di anticipo. Dopo i risultati di Germania e Galles eravamo convinti di poter puntare al titolo e per questo motivo ci siamo iscritti alla prova finale in Australia. Il regolamento parla chiaro: contano sei gare nell’arco della stagione e per il nostro ormai unico avversario il Costa Brava era l’ultima occasione. Lui doveva assolutamente vincere per continuare a sperare, mentre noi dovevamo arrivare secondi per assicurarci il titolo e su questo obiettivo abbiamo impostato la nostra gara”.
E l’equipaggio piemontese ha perfettamente messo in pratica la strategia studiata, nonostante nella prima tappa su terra abbia avuto problemi di set-up alla Peugeot 208. “Quando sei costretto a correre in difesa tutto diventa più difficile e ti sembra sempre che l’errore sia dietro l’angolo”. Nella seconda tappa, quella di sabato su asfalto, le cose vanno decisamente meglio per Brazzoli-Beltrame. I meccanici di Vieffe Corse trovano immediatamente la giusta quadra e i pneumatici Pirelli funzionano che è una meraviglia.
“Abbiamo perciò deciso di attaccare e nella prima prova speciale del mattino abbiamo subito staccato il miglior tempo di categoria per far sentire al nostro avversario finlandese che noi c’eravamo”, ma il colpo di scena arriva prima della successiva speciale. “È stato allora che abbiamo scoperto che Lario Taisko era stato penalizzato di dieci minuti per aver saltato un controllo timbro. A quel punto eravamo in testa alla gara, ma non abbiamo rallentato il ritmo” racconta Brazzoli che vince ancora due prove nella stessa giornata. Infine l’ultima tappa, quella di domenica. “Eterna, sembrava non finire mai. I sessantadue chilometri cronometrati più lunghi della mia vita. Poi il palco arrivi, i complimenti di Petter Sollberg che partiva dietro di noi, che è tre volte campione del mondo. La conferenza stampa finale insieme a Loeb, Ogier, Rovampera, due campioni del mondo ed un ragazzino che probabilmente lo diventerà. Sono sensazioni indescrivibili”. Brazzoli analizza con estrema lucidità la sua stagione. “Come ho già detto eravamo partiti ad inizio anno per conquistare un posto sul podio nella classifica finale del campionato WRC-3. La vittoria a Montecarlo, la prima gara della stagione, ci ha proiettati al comando e nelle nostre menti abbiamo iniziato a crederci. Nel Principato non eravamo stati i più veloci, ma sicuramente i più costanti e regolari e soprattutto non avevamo commesso errori. In Germania, specie nella seconda tappa, ed in Galles siamo andati veramente forte ed a quel punto era scontato puntare al massimo risultato possibile. La vittoria”. L’analisi del pilota saluzzese prosegue: “Abbiamo vinto usando la testa e mai commettendo errori, anche se abbiamo vissuto momenti difficili, come in Sardegna con la foratura prima e la successiva la rottura del radiatore sul dosso della Monte Lerno. Ma non ci siamo mai demoralizzati. Ogni contrarietà è stata vissuta come una sfida a rialzarsi, risalire e riprendere a lottare. Questi sono i rally, questo è lo sport e se vogliamo questa è la vita. Ho vinto a 53 anni usando le armi che ha un pilota della mia età. Costanza di prestazioni, mai commettere errori e sfruttare tutte le possibilità. I ragazzini di vent’anni sono indubbiamente più veloci di me, ma spesso non finiscono le gare. Ma hanno ragione. Debbono dimostrare di essere veloci per cercare di concretizzare il sogno di diventare pilota ufficiale in una grande squadra. Al loro posto anch’io attaccherei le speciali a testa bassa, per fare notizia. Alla mia età non ho più nulla da dimostrare, se non godermi la soddisfazione di essere uno dei pochi italiani che ha vinto un titolo mondiale nei rally come Miki Biasion, Simone Tempestini, Alex Fiorio e se vogliamo anche Sandro Munari che vinse una coppa FIA che fu l’antesignana del campionato mondiale rally”. “Un risultato che ho raggiunto grazie ad una perfetta azione di squadra” sottolinea Brazzoli, “a cominciare da Luca Beltrame, con il quale mi sono trovato benissimo fin dai primi metri in cui abbiamo condiviso l’abitacolo. E poi Winners Rally Team con cui collaboro fin dal momento in cui è nata la scuderia, mentre ho iniziato a frequentare Carlo Valinotti, uno dei boss di WRT, nel 1984, quando preparava la mia Fulvia HF da gara. Fondamentale è stata la Vieffe Corse che mi ha fornito una Peugeot 208 VTI perfetta in tutta la stagione ed anche nelle precedenti annate, e i pneumatici Pirelli, oltre naturalmente ai miei sponsor che mi hanno sostenuto e a tutte le persone che mi sono state vicine”. Ed il futuro?“Innanzi tutto riprendo a lavorare, come faccio normalmente tutti i giorni della settimana. Poi andremo in Australia, una gara che abbiamo programmato quando abbiamo deciso di puntare al titolo mondiale. Siamo già iscritti, abbiamo già prenotato il volo aereo e la logistica è definita. Un’occasione unica per disputare un rally difficilmente raggiungibile. Per quanto riguarda la stagione 2019 non mi dispiacerebbe disputare il campionato WRC2, la nuova categoria che la FIA ha varato per il prossimo anno riservata ai piloti privati con una vettura di Classe R5. Se la Winners Rally Team, gli amici e gli sponsor continueranno a sostenermi sarò ancora al via delle gare iridate, perché quando assaggi le prove speciali di un rally mondiale non puoi più farne a meno”.
